چکیده

Metastatic involvement of the leptomeninges by malignant gliomas, such as glioblastoma multiforme and medulloblastoma, is not unusual. However, gliomas grossly appearing to arise in the lepto-meninges are rare, and may assume one of two forms: (1) the meningeal tumour may be entirely extracerebral and have no demonstrable connexion with the underlying neuraxis, or (2) it may grow largely in the subarachnoid space, but with definite connexions to the superficial layers of the adjacent cortex. An example of the second type is offered in the present case, where a well-differentiated astro-cytoma was grossly identifiable only in the sub-arachnoid space of the right Sylvian fissure, but microscopically it extended into the cerebral peri-vascular spaces and invaded the cerebral cortex through breaks in the adventitia-glia membranes.

Symptomatic Spinal Metastases from Intracranial High-grade Glioma – Report of Four Cases and Review of the Literature

Intraspinal (leptomeningeal or intramedullary) metastases from primary intracranial gliomas have been well documented in several clinical and pathological series; however, symptomatic intraspinal metastases remain rare. We conducted a retrospective search of cases of intraspinal metastases treated at our centre and report four cases of symptomatic intraspinal leptomeningeal and intramedullary m...

It is thought to derive from heterotopic nests of neuroglial tissue within the leptomeninges, w...

A cytology negative rare tumor with the presentation of pseudotumor cerebri clinical symptoms: diffuse leptomeningeal glioneuronal tumor

Diffuse leptomeningeal glioneuronal tumor is characterized by hydrocephalus, leptomeningeal involvement in the absence of a primary parenchymal mass, and negative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cytology. It is an extremely rare and difficult tumor to diagnose as no mass can be biopsied and it mimics infectious, rheumatologic, and inflammatory pathologies. An 11-year-old girl presented with complaint...

The clinical features of spinal leptomeningeal dissemination from malignant gliomas.

OBJECTIVE The incidence of leptomeningeal dissemination from malignant glioma is rare, so the clinical features of this are not well documented yet. We attempted to determine the clinical features of leptomeningeal dissemination from malignant gliomas. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 11 cases of leptomeningeal dissemination of malignant glioma, who were treated at our institution between ...

Solitary Primary Leptomeningeal Glioma: Case Report

We report a case of solitary primary leptomeningeal glioma. The mass was totally removed under awake surgery. Intraoperatively, no parenchymal involvement was noted. Histopathological study revealed a predominant anaplastic oligodendroglioma component and a focal anaplastic astrocytoma component, which was consistent with an anaplastic oligoastrocytoma. Adjuvant tomotherapy was followed and the...
